{"url":"http://public2.vulnerablecode.io/api/vulnerabilities/45679?format=json","vulnerability_id":"VCID-4fr6-qtc2-j3cc","summary":"Uncontrolled Resource Consumption\nFides is an open-source privacy engineering platform for managing data privacy requests and privacy regulations. The Fides webserver is vulnerable to a type of Denial of Service (DoS) attack. Attackers can exploit this vulnerability to upload zip files containing malicious SVG bombs (similar to a billion laughs attack), causing resource exhaustion in Admin UI browser tabs and creating a persistent denial of service of the 'new connector' page (`datastore-connection/new`). This vulnerability affects Fides versions `2.11.0` through `2.15.1`. Exploitation is limited to users with elevated privileges with the `CONNECTOR_TEMPLATE_REGISTER` scope, which includes root users and users with the owner role. The vulnerability has been patched in Fides version `2.16.0`. Users are advised to upgrade to this version or later to secure their systems against this threat. There is no known workaround to remediate this vulnerability without upgrading.","aliases":[{"alias":"CVE-2023-37481"},{"alias":"GHSA-3rw2-wfc8-wmj5"}],"fixed_packages":[{"url":"http://public2.vulnerablecode.io/api/packages/66178?format=json","purl":"pkg:pypi/ethyca-fides@2.16.0","is_vulnerable":false,"affected_by_vulnerabilities":[],"resource_url":"http://public2.vulnerablecode.io/packages/pkg:pypi/ethyca-fides@2.16.0"}],"affected_packages":[{"url":"http://public2.vulnerablecode.io/api/packages/34458?format=json","purl":"pkg:pypi/ethyca-fides@2.11.0","is_vulnerable":true,"affected_by_vulnerabilities":[{"vulnerability":"VCID-4fr6-qtc2-j3cc"},{"vulnerability":"VCID-n42w-pw9q-8bam"},{"vulnerability":"VCID-t6rs-wvwa-puh9"},{"vulnerability":"VCID-y2ve-cmnc-43gd"}],"resource_url":"http://public2.vulnerablecode.io/packages/pkg:pypi/ethyca-fides@2.11.0"}],"references":[{"reference_url":"https://github.com/ethyca/fides/commit/8beaace082b325e693dc7682029a3cb7e6c2b69d","reference_id":"","reference_type":"","scores":[],"url":"https://github.com/ethyca/fides/commit/8beaace082b325e693dc7682029a3cb7e6c2b69d"},{"reference_url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2023-37481","reference_id":"CVE-2023-37481","reference_type":"","scores":[],"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2023-37481"},{"reference_url":"https://github.com/ethyca/fides/security/advisories/GHSA-3rw2-wfc8-wmj5","reference_id":"GHSA-3rw2-wfc8-wmj5","reference_type":"","scores":[],"url":"https://github.com/ethyca/fides/security/advisories/GHSA-3rw2-wfc8-wmj5"}],"weaknesses":[{"cwe_id":1035,"name":"OWASP Top Ten 2017 Category A9 - Using Components with Known Vulnerabilities","description":"Weaknesses in this category are related to the A9 category in the OWASP Top Ten 2017."},{"cwe_id":400,"name":"Uncontrolled Resource Consumption","description":"The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources."},{"cwe_id":937,"name":"OWASP Top Ten 2013 Category A9 - Using Components with Known Vulnerabilities","description":"Weaknesses in this category are related to the A9 category in the OWASP Top Ten 2013."}],"exploits":[],"severity_range_score":null,"exploitability":null,"weighted_severity":null,"risk_score":null,"resource_url":"http://public2.vulnerablecode.io/vulnerabilities/VCID-4fr6-qtc2-j3cc"}
