{"url":"http://public2.vulnerablecode.io/api/vulnerabilities/67609?format=json","vulnerability_id":"VCID-pcw5-mrga-xyeh","summary":"pam_usb provides hardware authentication for Linux using ordinary removable media. Prior to 0.8.7, pamusb-pinentry reads the PINENTRY_FALLBACK_APP environment variable and executes it directly without any validation. Any process that can set environment variables before pamusb-pinentry is invoked can point PINENTRY_FALLBACK_APP at an arbitrary binary or script and have it executed with the privileges of the pam_usb tool chain. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.8.7.","aliases":[{"alias":"CVE-2026-44709"}],"fixed_packages":[],"affected_packages":[],"references":[{"reference_url":"https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-44709","reference_id":"","reference_type":"","scores":[{"value":"0.00023","scoring_system":"epss","scoring_elements":"0.06721","published_at":"2026-06-11T12:55:00Z"},{"value":"0.00023","scoring_system":"epss","scoring_elements":"0.06741","published_at":"2026-06-12T12:55:00Z"},{"value":"0.00023","scoring_system":"epss","scoring_elements":"0.0673","published_at":"2026-06-13T12:55:00Z"},{"value":"0.00023","scoring_system":"epss","scoring_elements":"0.06713","published_at":"2026-06-14T12:55:00Z"}],"url":"https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-44709"},{"reference_url":"https://github.com/mcdope/pam_usb/security/advisories/GHSA-jxrj-q67x-wr4c","reference_id":"GHSA-jxrj-q67x-wr4c","reference_type":"","scores":[{"value":"7.8","scoring_system":"cvssv3.1","scoring_elements":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H"},{"value":"Track*","scoring_system":"ssvc","scoring_elements":"SSVCv2/E:P/A:N/T:T/P:M/B:A/M:M/D:R/2026-06-02T17:58:32Z/"}],"url":"https://github.com/mcdope/pam_usb/security/advisories/GHSA-jxrj-q67x-wr4c"}],"weaknesses":[{"cwe_id":78,"name":"Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an OS Command ('OS Command Injection')","description":"The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component."}],"exploits":[],"severity_range_score":"7.8 - 7.8","exploitability":null,"weighted_severity":null,"risk_score":null,"resource_url":"http://public2.vulnerablecode.io/vulnerabilities/VCID-pcw5-mrga-xyeh"}
